WILD ONE--This past weekend had us listening to rolling thunder, accompanied by some flashy lightning and we saw and heard some very heavy rains, along with howling winds! I was happy that we didn't lose power throughout the nastiest part of this event, but we did lose it for about an hour during a calm period on Sunday evening, which seemed weird. While I certainly wasn't expecting it to happen during the calmest part of the day, at least I was prepared for it. A big thank you to the PUD crew for having our power back on in such a short time!...
Rain and wind: I worked hard last week to prune, weed eat and clean up debris in my yard. The apples that fall from the tree at the top of the hill behind my house continue to increase as they fall down the hill. There are night creatures that come and enjoy them, I'm sure. Ben, my dog, used to bark at them, but over time he's given up. Each morning I sing the Johnny Appleseed song. Remember him? "Oh, the Lord is good to me and so I thank the Lord for giving me the things I need, the sun and...

CHANGING--After a warm and sunny weekend, with just a bit of mist Sunday morning, it looks like we may be in for some real weather changes for the weekend. Friday looks to be the start of several days of rain, so while it's not great for those with weekend plans, I know all of us living amongst the dry forests are truly hoping to see some decent rainfall out of this to help negate some of our fire danger. With these systems often falling apart before they reach us, we're keeping our fingers crossed that this time we actually get some of this mu...
Good morning. The air this morning has the scent of fall. September is always a good month. We're now transitioning into fall with school started and the Rod Run over. Now we can look to Halloween, hunting season, Thanksgiving, then Christmas. It all goes by so quickly. Let's take time to be with others, even by phone, or whatever ways we can. I love you, Aunt Hattie in Arizona, who loves the Sheriff's Report. Thanks for calling me! Appelo Archives Deli has a new menu with many more lunch...
First I would like to thank all of the riders for coming to our August 7 and September 11 gaming shows. you all did a great job, good rides. We hope to see you on September 25 for show #3. This year was a bit of a surprise. Last year due to covid, we were unable to run the Silver Buckle Series, so I have not seen our riders in two years. The surprise is that all of our Pee Wee riders (11 years old and under) are now riding in the 12-18 year old age group. To add to the surprise we have had five...

By Winnie, Joyce, Sue, Juanita, Kim, Denise, Chris and Jon Hard to believe that summer is gone. Now is time to prep the garden for fall and winter. In spite of some strange weather early in the season and the long dry spell, the Community Garden has never looked so good. Dedicated volunteers have helped with the weeding, watering and harvesting of the veggies, herbs, and fruit sent off to the local food banks. It is always distressful when after all the hard work, vandals are destructive. We have had some plants dug up and taken. This is very...

CLOUDY BEGINNING--As this week begins, it's a bit cloudy but still fairly warm, so it's pretty good weather to be working outside. The rest of the week looks to be a mix of sun and clouds and comfortable temperatures, so those days will be enjoyable. However, it will also be interesting to see if the hot days forecast for this past Tuesday and Wednesday actually happen or not. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Sept 9-15 are Carla Keilwitz, Edward Johnson, Amanda Poler, Brittnie Helms-Lampitt, Jamie Nielsen, Tina Schubert, Shayne...
September 11 is National Emergency Responders Day. This week it seems appropriate to honor our own emergency responders as we get close to the 20th Anniversary of September 11, 2001. I remember that day very well and I know many of you do as well. I was working in my office at Fuller Seminary and heard on the radio. I drove to Fred Meyer in Ballard and bought a tiny TV so we could see for ourselves because it was so unbelievable to imagine. We were all stunned and quiet because it was difficult...
The emergency proclamation preventing shut-off of water, electricity or natural gas services is slated to end Sept. 30. It is among the many emergency measures enacted by Gov. Jay Inslee in the wake of covid-19. State leaders and utility operators estimate more than 500,000 Washingtonians have overdue bills that could result in their services being shut off. They urge customers to contact their utilities as soon as possible and make a plan to keep their services on. Information for customers is available at commerce.wa.gov/utility-assistance...

The Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival, originally planned for September 10-12, 2021, has been canceled due to the shifting COVID-19 landscape. This decision was met with widespread positive feedback from the community and support from Jefferson...
