HALF AND HALF--As this week began, we had sort of a gray but dry start, but by mid-afternoon Sunday, the rain started to fall pretty heavily and along with some wind, made for quite the racket on the windows around my place. Thankfully this dark soaker didn't last too long and we got back to some sunshine, but we're definitely doing the "half and half" routine around here. Drier but colder weather followed that but we're supposed to be back to the boots and umbrellas type weather by the weekend, so here's hoping that we don't get anymore...

Oneida Road As a relatively new person to the county by local standards, it has been my pleasure to travel the different roads in the area. I have seen some of the maintenance needs on Eden Valley Road, Hull Creek Road, and Shannon Road. They all have their needs, but the one that really stuck out in my mind was Oneida Road. Not that this road was any different, but there were so many spots on Oneida Road that are dangerous to oncoming traffic because the road is not wide enough. The road has...

The Lewis and Clark Expedition is known for blazing a trail west and recording discoveries of plants, animals and people along the way. Although there are more than 1,000,000 words in the journal entries of the Expedition, many questions linger about details of the expedition including, “What about York?” Today York, the man enslaved to William Clark and member of the Expedition, is the subject of much fascination and admiration. In-depth research into York’s life however is recent and limited. Join them Saturday, February 29, at 1 p.m. as th...

SOGGY--As of this writing, we are measuring just a snitch shy of 50" of rainfall since the beginning of the year; that's wet! However, when the weekend showed up, it got drier, albeit colder, but hey, we got to see the sun shining after the fog lifted and well, that was so welcomed after days of gloom and steady rainfall! The clear weather also meant we got to see some fantastic views of the "Snow Moon" so that was pretty special as well. In some areas around here, there were even some pretty hefty winds blowing one night, so some calm days...
American Legion Crab & Oyster Feed Saturday evening was quite a delight for the supporters of the annual American Legion crab and oyster dinner. Some of those who live on the east side of KM were not aware that as of approximately four p.m., Friday the highway was open to single lane traffic. They took the ferry to Westport then on to Astoria to cross the bridge to come back to Rosburg. That is a two hour drive one way. Fortunately they had a shorter ride back over KM. Dale Rose informed me that...
