The Washington Medical Commission (WMC) has been alerted that scam artists are calling clinics, Dr. offices and pharmacies posing as the WMC or medical board. These scam artists have increased the deceptiveness of the tactics by using direct phone numbers to WMC staff. All practitioners should be skeptical of anyone claiming to be with the WMC making such demands. Be aware the WMC will never call you asking for your DEA number, private information or looking for payment. If you receive a call like this and have questions, contact them at...

NICER?--After a couple of days of snowy weather and then a couple of outages last week due to strong winds and debris flying everywhere, it's back to just rain and gloomy conditions, so I guess that's some sort of improvement anyway. Of course, by the time you read this, who knows what has happened, but with a little luck, we will just stay damp and dismal and not flooded and totally miserable, as one is certainly more preferred than the other. Here's to calmness this coming week! HOW DID YOU FARE?--Depending on where you were, you may have had...
Woodworker Extraordinaire Nobody at the Art Show at the Grange would have any idea the impact that the show would have on me. After talking with the artists and others, it occurred to me that there is so much talent in the Westend that it fathoms the imagination. The genius that is in the Westend has been hidden in plain sight. When all those around you can do generously amazing things with their talents, it goes unnoticed because it is so common. One of those talented woodworkers extraordinaire...

NOT NICE--Last week ended with a whole lot of wind and rain and "King Tides" and sadly, the deaths of a couple of young children. Every year, people are warned about being on the beach and how "sneaker" waves can take you down in an instant. During King Tides, it is even more important to stay very clear of flat beaches and low lying areas, where waves will rush up with such speed and power, that there is no escaping them. Needless to say, we feel absolutely heart broken for those who lost their loved ones. Via multiple videos, there were also...

First freshet brings opportunity Every once in a while the Grays River overflows its banks and sends thousands of cubic feet of water and debris downstream. The first freshet of 2020 brought not only flooding to the Westend, but an opportunity for a few to pull things from Grays River that has value. About 30 yards west of Duffy's on Friday afternoon I saw Wes Ware and Nick Hummer on a very large cedar log near the bank on the river. Their opportunity was to get this valuable cedar out of the...

The high school robotics team and a support group of middle school future robotics team members played for 15 hours traveling to Olympia and doing robotics with 35 other teams coming from Seattle to Vancouver in the Watt Interleague Championships. We played five matches, two-on-two, with many of the other teams. One of our matches was against the eventual winner from Union High school, Geared Reaction. They were tough! Robotics does not have school association levels - we are all in there...
