The Food for Friends Food Drive was coordinated by the Hunger Relief Task Force, WSU Extension Office, Health and Human Services and representatives from several local churches who were concerned about hunger and food insecurity in Wahkiakum County. The event is a partnership of the JA Wendt Elementary School, the John C. Thomas Middle School, and the Parent Teacher Organization.     September 2, 2014 saw the dedication of a beautiful Julia Child yellow rose planted in the Wahkiakum Community Garden in Erickson Park in memory of the late Pat Reese, a longtime member of the local Woman's Club, an avid gardener, and a well-known active member of our community. Here a plant spike is placed in her honor by her husband, Larry Reese, and former garden coordinator Linda Hartung.     On September 20, 2014, Skamokawa native Marjorie (Bunn) and Jerry Dunne will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple began their lives together in Portland, OR, where Marjorie began a career with Fred Meyer Corp. and Jerry with Hercules Inc. They each retired after more than 30 years.     The first Fall Fishing Frenzy Salmon Derby was organized this year by a group of citizens who are concerned about the youth in our community and wanted to do something to help. The salmon derby began on August 30 and ended September 7, and the money they raised will go to two local programs.
