    On October 29 at 6 a.m., WSU Extension Agent Charles Brun will discuss how to avoid diseases in your fruit trees by spraying and management practices. Following the talk, Master Gardener Ted Cunningham will demonstrate the techniques used when pruning fruit trees. Pruning your trees will control the size of the tree and improve fruit quality. Proper pruning techniques reduce disease and promote greater fruit production.     The Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale at the Naselle Lutheran Church will be held November 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include Fall and Christmas decor, plus a wide variety of gift items and baked goods. John Indermark's latest book, Advent, A to Z will also be available to purchase. Several hot soups accompanied by breads and coffee will be offered starting at 11 a.m. as a free will donation.   • Helping Hand signs lease for food bank site in Erickson Park

    Wahkiakum Helping Hand President Shane Skinner signed the lease for Erickson Park on October 7. Helping Hand, a nonprofit corporation, plans to place a portable building in a section of Erickson Park to serve as a food bank. According to a report from Helping Hand, grants, matching funds and donations will finance the project. The group is still working out details but hopes to have the foundation in place next year.     The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency is seeking individuals interested in volunteering to play victims for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) disaster simulations.     A dedicated and helping hand, and more, to the community is Bob Adams, Puget Island. Bob had the idea and commitment that he would use his time and gardening skills to help the less fortunate in Wahkiakum County. Bob started early this spring in growing a large number of vegetable plants from seeds. In fact, when it came time to transfer these seedlings, there were too many. So Bob did another gracious gesture; he gave many plant starts away. Since about the first of July, his efforts in producing a large vegetable crop have come to fruition....
