Another view of Senator Wilson

To The Eagle,

I am writing this letter in response to last week’s presumptive letter about Senator Jeff Wilson by Garrett Radcliffe. I have never met Mr. Radcliffe, and it didn’t sound like he’s met Senator Wilson either. But I have had the pleasure of meeting Senator Wilson twice, right here in Cathlamet, in the last three months. Jeff Wilson is helping Wahkiakum County at the State level to attain forest land in the Grays River Watershed for a Community Forest via grants and State funding. Senator Wilson sees the importance of the Community Forest that will bring our County additionally needed revenue, a forest for us citizen to access and recreate in, and our ability to restore the choked watershed on the upper Grays River. I do know he is dedicated to this project to help Wahkiakum County. I have also noticed first-hand the respect our County Commissioners have for Jeff Wilson as a true friend to Wahkiakum County.

I’m glad that Mr. Radcliffe acknowledged the tank Jeff Wilson was driving was a “toy.” However, Mr. Radcliffe probably didn’t realize that Senator Wilson built that tank himself. That’s very impressive in my book. (I found that out when I was asking where someone could buy one of those.) I thought it was way-cool and a lot of fun. It never crossed my mind, even for a brief moment, that Senator Wilson was mocking either wars or the assassination attempt on former President Trump. He just looked like a guys-guy having fun.

It is too easy to make huge assumptions based on impressions, not facts, as Mr. Radcliffe did. People do it all the time. But, Mr. Radcliffe, maybe you’d like meet Senator Wilson in person to really see what he’s about, not just assume. I’d be happy to do whatever I can to make that happen for you. Just meet me at a County Commissioners’ meeting; I usually attend.
