A Friendship Group thanks

Thanks so much to the crowd of people who helped make our 2nd annual Thanksgiving dinner happen! Monetary donations came from Phyllis Hake, Nancy Nelson, Darcy McBride and Marianne Burkholder; turkeys were donated by the Cathlamet Market, Jayney Roskamp and The Spar, who also donated a large pan of green bean casserole, and the use of electric roasters and a chafing dish. The Food Bank located on Elochman donated baked beans, and we had several other donations from the Cathlamet Senior Friendship Group members who brought food items for the event but celebrated Thanksgiving with family members separately.

Phyllis Wesley was the master of the kitchen and started working on setting up the event by herself after church on Sunday. She made the rest of the set-up easy, and by herself made the dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. She put a lot of personal time into making the event happen—more than any other individual! Welcome to the team, Phyllis! We hope to see more of you in our Friendship group!

We did not make an official count of the people who showed up for the event; we think 60-70 people came, and at least 2 dozen take-out boxes were prepared and taken by attendees to people who missed out on attending the dinner. Thank you to all the considerate attendees who took food to their neighbors! There were a lot of left-overs and we were able to dole out food to many of the attendees who had ideas of where they could take it.

Many hands make light work, and we appreciate all who helped us turn the church basement back into it’s intended condition!
