NICE--We're finally getting a bit more summer-like weather and with that, it means our gardens need a little extra drink and it also means more people out and about on the waterways, so be extra careful out there. Then of course, the increased sunshine means one should not be leaving their animals in their rigs at this time as those dogs can't sweat like humans do, so here's hoping everyone is adhering to this common sense idea and leaving Fido at home. It should go without saying that one should not leave a child in a hot car, but sadly this...
WEEKEND WEATHER--we had a mixed bag of weather this past weekend, as Friday was great but cooled downed quickly so we saw some wetness out here on Saturday and then it was pretty decent Sunday with a nice sunny day this past Monday, so not too bad. I do hope your garden is growing great, as I know mine seems to be sprouting right up there, along with the grass and the weeds of course, but then again, that off and on moisture keeps us green and keeps the water flowing so it's not a bad thing to me. Other than a little rain this Friday, it looks...
MIXED BAG AGAIN--This past weekend was certainly a bit of everything, and as usual, we wound up with the "mostly cloudy" part on the Fourth of July until later on in the evening, when the skies cleared up and we saw the sun about 7:30 p.m. When we were wanting to sit outside to enjoy some burgers from the grill, it was only 62 degrees and cloudy with a cool breeze, so that meant eating inside for people like me who don't like having to put on a coat to enjoy a burger! Just a little further in either direction, it seemed like they had much more...
MIXED WEATHER--This past weekend started a bit drippy for many of us and the "brief shower" listed on our weather apps lasted much longer for some of us, as often times we find that West Valley is "very special,"as in, "always different" than most, so we don't count on those apps to correctly forecast our weather! I hope the upcoming forecast is nicer though, as it may wind up that the weather will be wetter during the week but mostly sunny for the weekend, which I'm sure would be very well received for those with big BBQ or travel plans....
ANOTHER MIXED WEEKEND--There's nothing like being in the 80s one minute, and within an hour, in the 60s, followed by rain the next day, only to be followed by sunshine; what a way to end spring and start summer. With a little luck, the forecast of decent weather all week will come true, but as we all know, that can change in a heartbeat, so if you're planning a special event, always have those alternative indoor plans on the back burner, or you might be attending that outdoor BBQ in your boots, wearing a rain coat and packing an umbrella!...
PRETTY WET--This past weekend it was pretty wet, like inches of wetness, at least out here in West Valley. The greenery even got so heavy, that a couple of trees came down and one of them took out our power! Thank goodness we saw a bit more sunshine and dry weather on Sunday, which was Flag Day, and I'm told we'll have a few really nice days by the end of the week and maybe even half of the weekend, so let's hope we can all sneak in a BBQ while it's dry. However, with the weather being so unpredictable around here, I'm going to believe it when...
WET AND WILD--Once again, this past week has been a mix of weather, and depending on where you were, you were either mowing the lawn or you were pulling out the umbrellas and putting on your boots! While I was actually enjoying some sunshine after a light morning shower, a friend of mine a little further east said it was pouring down rain for a bit, which was then accompanied by an extremely heavy burst of hail, so I guess if you didn't like the weather, you just needed to drive a few miles in another direction, and you'd find yourself in...
One of the "jewels" of Skamokawa, WA is located on SR 4 just west of MP 29, where you'll turn to the south onto Vista Park Road and find a true gem along the mighty Columbia River, which is "Skamokawa Vista Park." The park's closure at the beginning of the COVID-19 scare was heartbreaking for those that were used to having it accessible to them for camping and holding reunions and just enjoying a walk on the beach, so now that many restrictions are being lifted, its opening has been met with a l...
WEEKEND--This past weekend marked the end of May and it ended in quite a racket really, as Saturday morning was booming with rolling thunder and later on, the pounding of some rain, but it was brief, so it was only noisy for a short amount of time compared to other places. Luckily we didn't get "shocked" by a lot of lightning like they did in other areas. Sunday was drippy and cloudy but nothing too major so now we'll see if we get that sunnier weather during the week which was forecast. The down side is, the weekend looks wet again, so not...
WET--As I begin this on Memorial Day, it is a very wet and ugly looking day out there, so if you had any plans for this past weekend, I hope you did them earlier on, as this start to the week was not a nice one. While radar showed little moisture out there and some folks thought it might be dry, if you happen to live in Skamokawa, it was anything but dry! The forecast calls for very warm and sunny conditions from Tuesday through Friday, so here's hoping all you heat seekers get your wish! WONDERFUL TRIBUTE--I just want to say that the...
PRETTY WET--I hope you used those sun breaks earlier this week to get your lawn mowed and those other outdoor chores done, as we are supposed to get pretty wet during this week. Last weekend I was happy to get out and about and get a bit of yardwork done before the raindrops came back. These days it's "off and on" with the rain so we have to get out there when we can. With a little luck, I may have some flowers left to put up at the cemetery for this Memorial Day on Monday, but sadly there's a couple of bushes that are "toast" already, which...
HOT ONE--If you are one of those folks who like the heat, you sure enjoyed this past weekend, as temperatures were close to 90 degrees, certainly toasty enough for me! Before that, there were several days that were in the upper 70s/lower 80s and it was quite a nice dry streak for folks who were sick of the cold and wet weather. This week looks to be much cooler and damper too, with the only real dry day being tomorrow, Friday, so I hope you're able to take advantage of any dry times that we get, as I swear the lawn needs to be mowed every few...
MIXED BAG--This past weekend was certainly a mixture of weather, as it seemed to pour down rain one minute and then the sun would come out and it looked great again; until the next cloud burst showed up. I'm told the end of this week may see some very nice weather and even some hot days, so all you sun lovers will be more than happy to see that. Remember, it may be cool in your car when you start out in the morning, but if the heat shows up, your car quickly turns into a death trap for animals and children, so here's hoping we don't have to hea...
ALMOST GONE--If you are getting this on Thursday, then this is the last day of yet another month; where did April go? So, tomorrow, Friday, is May Day; Happy May Day, everybody! Here's hoping you can surprise somebody with some flowers, like we used to do in the old days, as that's always fun, while practicing social distancing of course! I'm seeing lots of great pictures on Facebook of folks' lawns and flowers, and I have to say, they are looking awesome. This month is also "Cinco De Mayo" time (May 5) and as luck would have it, it actually...
MIXED BAG--Last Friday saw us enjoying a truly stunning day with temperatures reaching in the mid-70s and boy, that was nice! But, what a difference a few hours makes, as we woke up Saturday morning to a cloudy and damp morning. It wasn't a whole lot of rain but it dampened things down a bit, so the pollen wasn't so thick, the dust wasn't blowing around and I think all the plants and freshly mowed grasses all enjoyed the "drink" they got. Beings we had dry weather by Saturday afternoon, folks were still able to get out and about, so it wasn't...
SUPER NICE--As this work week begins, it's a really gorgeous day and if it wasn't for the pollen outside, it would be terrific to be out there! It's still nice, but if you're an allergy sufferer, it's not quite so neat. Still, it beats the rain! We did have below freezing temperatures this past weekend out here in our valley though, so I hope it didn't get that cold where you were. Are you one of those who had just done a lot of planting? I hear we may have a chance of some showers this week but it only looks to be for a day, so here's hoping t...
STARTING OFF--As this week began, we actually had a pretty nice day this last Sunday. At least it was decent enough here to get the lawn mowed and do a lot of other outside things, so that certainly helped with our cabin fever and kept us occupied during this time when everyone is being asked to stay home. From the looks of it, we may actually have a pretty dry week, although I always expect that forecast to change without warning! At any rate, very warm temperatures during the week, so let's hope this nice forecast comes true, as it was a tadb...
WET ONE--This past weekend was fairly soggy and not exactly the kind of weather one wants in order to get out and take a walk to get a bit of fresh air. Hopefully the forecast of nicer days will come true and we'll all be able to get out in our yards and work a bit, although for us allergy sufferers, we have to decide between fresh air full of pollen or take more meds and hope for a clearing of our minds, and maybe our clogged noses! As the work week begins, we've had wind, rain, hail and sunshine, so I'm guessing Spring is just showing us her...
NICE WEEKEND--You'll probably be reading this after some rainy days, but boy, last weekend sure was nice! The cold mornings weren't so great but those sunny afternoons made for the perfect time to till gardens and mow lawns and get out and do some yard work, so that was great. While Monday saw some rain, it also came with a few sun breaks, so that cheered folks up, and considering we may have a week of drippy weather, we'll take all the sun breaks we can get! NOT GOOD--Unfortunately, with all that sunny, warm weather, a whole lot of folks...
WILD WEATHER--Last Thursday was a super gorgeous day and everyone was enjoying the sun and basically scoffing at the idea of the "snowflake" on their weather apps on their phones, until Friday morning, and then there it was: snow! It seems like Friday the Thirteenth was more like April Fools' Day and we went from flip flops to boots in a matter of hours! We had a few more flakes the next day, but most of the heavier amounts of snow were east of us, so that suited me just fine, but I was pretty amazed to see the white blankets of snow in some...
DECENT START--As this week begins, it was a pretty nice Sunday with some sunny skies to boot. Beings we ended last week with a brief snow shower, well, the sun was definitely more welcomed than that. KM mountain had a light layer on the highway for a short time that morning but thankfully, it warmed up and our brief snow event was over; whew! I hope that's the last we have seen of the "white stuff" but we have had snow at Easter time in April before, so for all you new folks in the area, don't be surprised if we still wind up with some...
GOOD BEGINNING--As this week begins, as well as another new month, we woke up to some chilly temperatures but at least it was dry. February had closed with off and on downpours along with a bit of hail, so having a decent Sunday was good for the soul. Unfortunately, the week looks to be a bit damp with only a couple of dry days: one of which is on Wednesday (yesterday) and then maybe Sunday and Monday. However, a couple of those days are projecting the temperatures to drop into the freezing range so it's possible that we could see a few snow...
MIXED UP BEGINNING--As this week began, Sunday was sure a wild mix of weather, with some sun, some rain, some hail and even some very gusty winds in certain areas. I think much of West Valley escaped the worst of the winds, as I got very little of that here at my house, while folks elsewhere seemed to get the brunt of it and even had their gazebos torn apart! Further east, there were even some power outages, so it definitely depended on where you were as to how bad the weather was that day. I think this is the second time this year that we've...
HALF AND HALF--As this week began, we had sort of a gray but dry start, but by mid-afternoon Sunday, the rain started to fall pretty heavily and along with some wind, made for quite the racket on the windows around my place. Thankfully this dark soaker didn't last too long and we got back to some sunshine, but we're definitely doing the "half and half" routine around here. Drier but colder weather followed that but we're supposed to be back to the boots and umbrellas type weather by the weekend, so here's hoping that we don't get anymore...
SOGGY--As of this writing, we are measuring just a snitch shy of 50" of rainfall since the beginning of the year; that's wet! However, when the weekend showed up, it got drier, albeit colder, but hey, we got to see the sun shining after the fog lifted and well, that was so welcomed after days of gloom and steady rainfall! The clear weather also meant we got to see some fantastic views of the "Snow Moon" so that was pretty special as well. In some areas around here, there were even some pretty hefty winds blowing one night, so some calm days...
