    Wahkiakum School District board of directors heard a variety of reports and inputs when they met February 20. The board approved a one-season trial period for a spring season high golf team. Bill Olsen, varsity basketball coach and assistant middle school track coach, will coach the team, with practices starting at 5 p.m. after middle school track.     Prospects for salmon fishing are down this year with fewer chinook and coho expected to return to most rivers in the region, according to preseason forecasts developed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and treaty tribes. Forecasts released February 27 for chinook, coho, sockeye, pink and chum salmon mark the starting point for developing 2007 salmon-fishing seasons in Puget Sound, the Columbia River and Washington coastal areas.     Recreational vehicle (RV) donations are being sought for nine families whose RVs were destroyed in the winter storms of late 2006 and early 2007.     The Wahkiakum County 4-H Council is gearing up for its 23rd annual Great White Tail Run on May 19. The first step is to find a design for the run tee shirt. Over a 100 entries were received for this year's contest. First place was awarded to Ethan Cothren of Cathlamet. He wins $10 and a tee shirt with his winning design on it.     H&K Construction will start assembly of the new Cathlamet fire hall next week. H&K is finishing foundation work; next week, the contractor will unload and begin installing the pre-fabricated walls.     A new bench similar to the memorial benches currently in front of the Courthouse is being planned as a memorial to former Commissioner Mark Linquist who died in December.
