On a day with a limited agenda, citizens in the audience pressed the Wahkiakum County board of commissioners on Tuesday to pursue traffic safety measures on SR 4. The Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has been consulting with the county, Town of Cathlamet and Wahkiakum School District about possible changes to speed limits and traffic patterns in the Cathlamet area. Members of the Wahkiakum High School golf team were among the injured in a five-vehicle traffic accident at 1:25 p.m. last Thursday. According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, the team was in a 2005 Ford Excursion, fourth in a line of eastbound vehicles stopped for highway maintenance work near milepost 44, about two miles west of County Line Park. Free concert April 29 The Castle Rock Men’s Ensemble will give a free concert on Sunday, April 29, at 2 p.m., at St. James Episcopal Church, 1134 Columbia Street, Cathlamet. Vada Blanche Mosteller, 86, of Cathlamet died April 11, 2018 at Hospice Care Center in Longview. She was born September 22, 1931 in Bryson City, North Carolina to Raleigh and Maude (McMahan) DeHart. She attended school in North Carolina and married Paul Mosteller on September 6, 1947 in Georgia. They moved to Cathlamet in 1967. Paul died March 17, 2011 in Tacoma. The Cathlamet Town Council breezed through its agenda Monday, agreeing to pay off federal loans and considering applicants to be town attorney, among other agenda items. The council took out a $388,200 loan from the US Department of Agriculture/Rural Development in 1983 for sewer system construction. In February, USDA contacted Clerk/Treasurer Kerrie McNally to request the town pay off the loan. Troopers in the Washington State Patrol responded to 41 collisions in Wahkiakum County in 2017, Sgt. Brad Moon reported Tuesday. Troopers also made 1,582 contacts with motorists in the county, Moon said. The largest number of collisions, 12, occurred in the Cathlamet area. Steven Dale Harris, 64, of Cathlamet, died at his home on April 8, 2018. He was born in Billings, Montana on May 22, 1953 to Ed and Pat Harris. He graduated from high school in Billings and later received three Masters Degrees. He joined the Army in 1972 and spent three years, then was in the Army National Guard for many years.
