    Karen Bertroch|Dec 16, 2021

We have nine days till Christmas. We can either use it for more shopping or we can recognize that the days we have left give us time to pause in gratitude for all this Holy Day means. Advent is a time to open our hearts to the mystery of God the Creator, God in Flesh and God the Comforter. May you all be blessed by the coming days with the message of light in the darkness. And may the coming of the shortest day of the year (winter equinox) remind us that light has indeed come with the increased...

  • Writer challenges report's accuracy

    Nov 18, 2021

To The Eagle: In regards to the article by Karen Bertroch on Nov. 11, Naselle school board meeting: What she wrote about the military man who spoke was totally wrong. What he said was he's been around the world and what is happening now is that our country is going down hill. He asked if the school board has access to a lawyer and if so, that they should utilize them. He never said to follow authority. If a reporter is there to report what happens and what is said they need to get the information right, if they don't get it correct then it...

Some history on roads: The inconvenient second site closure on 401 gives me pause to be thinking of the years before "official" roads were built. Folks in the pioneering years (1850's to early 20th century) used water for their transportation. There were several early larger boats that took mail, produce, people and shoppers back and forth from Astoria to the small towns along the...
