The Adna Pirate/Wahkiakum Mule football game scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15, in Cathlamet has been postponed. According to Wahkiakum High School Athletic Director Rob Garrett, Adna has an issue with covid-19 among personnel and the game will be rescheduled. Wahkiakum County commissioners approved a controversial application for a shoreline management permit for a fish trap when they met Tuesday. The debate over the proposed location of a second fish trap in the Columbia near Cathlamet continued this week at the meeting of the county board of commissioners. In September, the county planning commission voted to deny the application for a shoreline development permit without listing reasons. The program outlines guidelines for waterfront development and use along county shorelines. In a meeting lasting three hours and 13 minutes on Monday, members of the Cathlamet Town Council started work on their 2022 budgets and began a process to revise rates for sewer service. As of Tuesday, there were 15 new cases of covid-19 reported in Wahkiakum County over the last seven days, with three last Thursday, five on Monday, and seven on Tuesday, for a total of 236. A moratorium on collections has ended, and the board of commissioners on Tuesday heard how the Wahkiakum County PUD planned to handle delinquent accounts. New CEO Ken Johnson gave an update of Wahkiakum West’s plans to expand broadband to the east side of the county at the Wahkiakum Broadband Action Committee meeting last Wednesday. Their goal, he said, is to expand into the remainder of Wahkiakum County and fill in some of the broadband gaps. Wahkiakum County resident Marsha LaFarge likes to stay active, and she's found a way to make it beneficial for others too. In September she participated in a fundraiser, The Great Cycle Challenge, which asked her to ride a hundred miles in 30 days while raising money to fight children's cancer. The Puget Island Fire Department has a new command vehicle. They purchased the used 2004 Chevrolet 2500 Heavy Duty 3/4 ton, with the long wheel base, long bed, and four-door crew cab in May. It cost $27,000. The command rig will not stay at the station.
