I feel like spring was just yesterday and tomorrow is Christmas. Anyone else experiencing a lovely dose of time these past few weeks? They came, they conquered. I’m still trying to catch my breath from the last rush of summer. The fair was such a good time, I was overwhelmed by a sincere and humbling gratitude towards this bucolic county. Most impressive by far, were the kids. I saw a lot of well behaved, well mannered, hardworking young folk. It was a pleasure to meet the fair queen Genevieve and the living embodiment of Victoria Birnie, b...

WEEKEND WEATHER--This past Saturday morning saw us dodging a little moisture but by afternoon, it was dry again. Sunday was truly a wonderful day, and by the looks of the traffic, half the people in the state were headed to the beach! They say we will have a heat spike by the time you read this. Depending on which weather station you listen to, there could be a chance of some light showers creeping in to the weekend forecast but I guess we'll have to wait and see what shows up. STILL DRY--As of this writing, the burn ban in our county is still...
Through the Fog of Time Part II The house where Hjalmar and Mabyn Klint raised their three children is still seen today in the valley where they had lived. The three Klint brothers must have known what an opportunity they had in acquiring the land. The area had a natural clearing, and they did not need to cut down as many trees in order to have decent land for farming or raising cattle. In many other places like Eden Valley, it would take decades to clear the tree stumps for a respectable farm....

Have you ever had an experience that you felt was surreal like a dream, but you are awake and conscious? That was my experience this past Saturday. It really started last week when the editor asked me if I wanted to cover a story about the ceili musicians staying at Skamokawa Vista Park. This group came from the Portland metro area to play and dance at Vista Park, Duffy's Irish Pub, and Skamokawa Grange #425. I initially thought I would go to Duffy's and take some pics and do a story, but I met...

Using detailed tsunami models, the simulations show the estimated height and speed of waves that are expected to reach Washington communities minutes after...
LITTLE DAMP--As this work week begins, we are just a little damp in West Valley, which makes for a gloomy start to the day, but on the other hand, moisture for our parched lawn is deeply appreciated, and it settles the dust as well. However, it wasn't too long before we had sunshine again, so we didn't get a lot of moisture, just enough to make it muggy when the sun came out! From what I hear, the real rain was to hit on Wednesday and may even be a bit damp on Thursday but then it's supposed to dry up and warm up, so let's hope those with weeke...
Through the Fog of Time Part I Imagine yourself driving east on State Route 4, and as you cross the Grays River bridge just east of Shannon Road, when a sudden fog immerses the car and the car comes to a halt. You get out of the car and notice the fog beginning to clear just west of Fossil Creek Road on the west side of the KM Mountain. Instead of seeing the highway, you see the Saldern Logging camp busy as ever on the south side of where the highway was. You realize you have gone back to the...
