    Washington state’s first joint wetland and fish habitat bank was signed into operation May 5. This landmark event certifies that the 302-acre mitigation bank along the Coweeman River will now protect wetland functions and create habitat for several life-stages of salmon.     Happy May to everyone. This month starts the busy season at the fair grounds. Several things will be going on at the fair grounds this summer. As you know we received a grant to upgrade the restrooms. As soon as Dollars for Scholars is over this will be taking place. Also we are going to have some electrical upgrades done at the fair.     The American Red Cross has launched a national campaign to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent over the next five years. Fire-related deaths and injuries are highest in homes without smoke alarms. Fire experts agree that people may have as little as two minutes to escape a burning home before it’s too late to get out.     Wow! April is over and May is beginning. That means we only have three months until fair. There is going to be a lot of construction going on at the fairgrounds this summer. We will be getting the new bathrooms thanks to a grant from WSDA. Also the county and PUD are going to do some electric upgrades and there will be some insulation going in to the youth building soon.
