BRRR--As the skies cleared this past weekend, the temperatures took a nose-dive and we wound up freezing here in West Valley, so I hope you had your hoses drained and your faucets covered and all your plants insulated from the cold as well. Of course, the middle of November will soon be here and I guess you know, we have had some pretty horrendous weather events around here during this time of year, so for all you new folks, please get yourself prepared for what could happen as around these parts, it's better to play it safe now, rather than...
NICE WEEKEND--We ended October last Saturday and it was very nice and sunny during the daytime, albeit a bit nippy in the evenings, but that's okay, as at least it wasn't wet and nasty out, which made it much better for all those trick or treaters that were out and about on Saturday! To top it off, we got to start our new month of November on Sunday, with an extra hour of sleep as well, so hey, that's always something to be happy about! I don't know about where you live, but we started this new month with freezing temperatures at our house...
BRRR--As this last week of October started, we woke up to a very cold, frosty white but clear morning on Sunday and it was just 27 degrees. I am thankful we had power because it would have been even colder in a hurry! I heard that some folks in Cathlamet and Puget Island wound up without any power for a bit that morning, so those folks who had alternative heat/power sources, were certainly glad they had that option. Considering this is the second outage in a short amount of time, I hope it's not a sign of things to come as Winter has yet to...
SOGGY BEGINNING--As this week begins, it is definitely a dripping, dreary, sunless day! It's one of those days when the dampness seems to sink into your bones and it's time to add that extra layer of clothes or crank up the heat as the whole house seems chilly. From the sounds of it, we may have more dampness before you get this paper, and then, if we get lucky, we get a couple of decent days scattered in there in the next week, so we sure hope so! However, it's possible that temperatures take a real cold turn at the latter part of this week,...
NOT SO NICE--This past Saturday night was really a wild one out here in West Valley, with thunder and lightning and windy conditions hitting us late that night and into early Sunday morning.Crazy times and loud too! Some neighboring fields turned into lakes once again, so at least the ducks seemed happy with the overnight changes. Then along came Sunday night. That was wild as well, but this time, multiple trees came down and we had power outages everywhere it seemed! Ours was out for over seven hours, but it depended on where you were as to...
CHANGE IS COMING--This past weekend wasn't too bad although Saturday was pretty cloudy with a bit of light mist in the evening hours in West Valley but Sunday was pretty decent and we even managed to see the sunshine. However, forecasters are saying that the rain is coming in this Saturday and will last for a few days, so I hope you were able to enjoy most of the dry weather we had. However, we all know how things can change around here in a hurry, so if it's a nice day, put your worries on the back burner and enjoy these wonderful Fall days...
NICE ONE--This week started out with blue sky and sunshine and according to forecasters, it is supposed to be nice all week long. That means September will end with sunshine and October will begin with sunshine and very warm temperatures, so that's a real surprise; a nice one though! With some folks planning special events this weekend, it will certainly be appreciated. However, those 80 degree temperatures (if they happen) certainly don't seem like football weather. I am just hoping that the wildfire smoke doesn't make a return like some...
BEEN A BIT WILD--Last Thursday evening we were treated to a thunder and lightning storm by Mother Nature and it was pretty darn impressive as it lit up the night sky and rattled our windows! I know some folks lost power out Pillar Rock way, but thankfully the PUD got right on it and it was repaired in no time, so that was good. Then we had some rain; the cleansing kind, which brought our air quality numbers way down to just 12, which was certainly a huge difference from that 328 we had a few days earlier! It's so nice to be able to open the...
NOT NICE--As this week began, the smoke and fog combo that hit Sunday morning was really something to see, as that's just about all that you could see at my house! It was defintely not a good time to be outside and warnings were given to stay inside until our air quality improves. I hope the rain that was to arrive this week shows up and gives us some relief, as these very smokey conditions are truly terrible. Just think: some countries have this kind of poor air quality on a regular basis and often times live in masks. That certainly gives us...
TOASTY--We got a heavy dose of Summer weather just as we go into the school year and what we always think of as Fall sports, but as we can see, these high temperatures mean more swim suits, flip flops and beach time, and not coats, umbrellas and boots! Of course, things can change here on a dime, so who knows how long this heat wave will continue, but I'm hoping you're enjoying it while it's here. For me, I will continue to hide in the basement where it's cool! Wildfires are raging in several states and some are experiencing black outs and of...
NICE--We had a nice weekend but while we had the sunny days, those evenings got pretty chilly so we know the seasons will soon be changing. While we had just a bit of a downturn on Monday morning, which brought a smattering of showers, it didn't last long and was decent the rest of the day. It also looks to be warming up for the rest of the week with some pretty high temperatures, so it looks like Summer isn't over just yet. I do hope you'll enjoy it while it's here as we all know what can happen here in the blink of an eye: Winter! Fingers...
NICE AGAIN--We may have had some drippy times at the end of last week but the weekend wasn't too bad, so the traffic was still pretty thick heading to the beach, as everyone is anxious to get out and about while Summer is still here. If the forecast holds true, we'll have sunshine all week long, so I hope you're getting those summertime chores wrapped up as Fall will be here before you know it. EXTREME FIRE DANGER--Until our Fall rains show up and wet down our tinder dry area, everyone is being reminded that we do have a burn ban in effect...
HOT, HOT, HOT!--Last weekend started out on a very toasty note, as temperatures were in the upper 90s at this house and even the "cool" side of the house registered 95, which is not exactly my idea of a cool day! With the traffic going non-stop in the westerly direction, I am guessing it was wall to wall down there! I know one person who touted it being only 73 degrees where he was, so yes, that's about perfect temperatures to enjoy the outdoors to me. Thankfully there was a smidgen of rain Sunday night and temps were in the 80s on Monday so I...
NICE ONE--We certainly had a nice weekend with a bit of heat thrown in there for you sun lovers, so I'm sure you all enjoyed it. The late night hours cooled things off a bit and the early morning hours weren't bad either, so for folks like me who don't like to work in the sun, those times really provided a great opportunity to do any outside chores that needed to be done. Of course, by the traffic I saw and heard going by, I know there were a lot of folks saying "forget the yardwork" and away they went to the coastal areas to enjoy a wonderful...
TOASTY--As this week began, we started off very sunny and warm as there was no haze, no morning mist, only direct sunshine coming in my windows and it warmed up very fast. We were in the low 90s in no time! With sunshine forecast for the entire week, although a bit cooler, I hope everyone enjoys it, but carefully, as it's easy to get dehydrated or get sunburned, which of course, is not a good thing. So, here's to enjoying the sunny weather while keeping ourselves safe and while keeping our animals and children safe too. SPECIAL DAYS-Those...
NICE--We're finally getting a bit more summer-like weather and with that, it means our gardens need a little extra drink and it also means more people out and about on the waterways, so be extra careful out there. Then of course, the increased sunshine means one should not be leaving their animals in their rigs at this time as those dogs can't sweat like humans do, so here's hoping everyone is adhering to this common sense idea and leaving Fido at home. It should go without saying that one should not leave a child in a hot car, but sadly this...
WEEKEND WEATHER--we had a mixed bag of weather this past weekend, as Friday was great but cooled downed quickly so we saw some wetness out here on Saturday and then it was pretty decent Sunday with a nice sunny day this past Monday, so not too bad. I do hope your garden is growing great, as I know mine seems to be sprouting right up there, along with the grass and the weeds of course, but then again, that off and on moisture keeps us green and keeps the water flowing so it's not a bad thing to me. Other than a little rain this Friday, it looks...
MIXED BAG AGAIN--This past weekend was certainly a bit of everything, and as usual, we wound up with the "mostly cloudy" part on the Fourth of July until later on in the evening, when the skies cleared up and we saw the sun about 7:30 p.m. When we were wanting to sit outside to enjoy some burgers from the grill, it was only 62 degrees and cloudy with a cool breeze, so that meant eating inside for people like me who don't like having to put on a coat to enjoy a burger! Just a little further in either direction, it seemed like they had much more...
MIXED WEATHER--This past weekend started a bit drippy for many of us and the "brief shower" listed on our weather apps lasted much longer for some of us, as often times we find that West Valley is "very special,"as in, "always different" than most, so we don't count on those apps to correctly forecast our weather! I hope the upcoming forecast is nicer though, as it may wind up that the weather will be wetter during the week but mostly sunny for the weekend, which I'm sure would be very well received for those with big BBQ or travel plans....
ANOTHER MIXED WEEKEND--There's nothing like being in the 80s one minute, and within an hour, in the 60s, followed by rain the next day, only to be followed by sunshine; what a way to end spring and start summer. With a little luck, the forecast of decent weather all week will come true, but as we all know, that can change in a heartbeat, so if you're planning a special event, always have those alternative indoor plans on the back burner, or you might be attending that outdoor BBQ in your boots, wearing a rain coat and packing an umbrella!...
PRETTY WET--This past weekend it was pretty wet, like inches of wetness, at least out here in West Valley. The greenery even got so heavy, that a couple of trees came down and one of them took out our power! Thank goodness we saw a bit more sunshine and dry weather on Sunday, which was Flag Day, and I'm told we'll have a few really nice days by the end of the week and maybe even half of the weekend, so let's hope we can all sneak in a BBQ while it's dry. However, with the weather being so unpredictable around here, I'm going to believe it when...
WET AND WILD--Once again, this past week has been a mix of weather, and depending on where you were, you were either mowing the lawn or you were pulling out the umbrellas and putting on your boots! While I was actually enjoying some sunshine after a light morning shower, a friend of mine a little further east said it was pouring down rain for a bit, which was then accompanied by an extremely heavy burst of hail, so I guess if you didn't like the weather, you just needed to drive a few miles in another direction, and you'd find yourself in...
One of the "jewels" of Skamokawa, WA is located on SR 4 just west of MP 29, where you'll turn to the south onto Vista Park Road and find a true gem along the mighty Columbia River, which is "Skamokawa Vista Park." The park's closure at the beginning of the COVID-19 scare was heartbreaking for those that were used to having it accessible to them for camping and holding reunions and just enjoying a walk on the beach, so now that many restrictions are being lifted, its opening has been met with a l...
WEEKEND--This past weekend marked the end of May and it ended in quite a racket really, as Saturday morning was booming with rolling thunder and later on, the pounding of some rain, but it was brief, so it was only noisy for a short amount of time compared to other places. Luckily we didn't get "shocked" by a lot of lightning like they did in other areas. Sunday was drippy and cloudy but nothing too major so now we'll see if we get that sunnier weather during the week which was forecast. The down side is, the weekend looks wet again, so not...
WET--As I begin this on Memorial Day, it is a very wet and ugly looking day out there, so if you had any plans for this past weekend, I hope you did them earlier on, as this start to the week was not a nice one. While radar showed little moisture out there and some folks thought it might be dry, if you happen to live in Skamokawa, it was anything but dry! The forecast calls for very warm and sunny conditions from Tuesday through Friday, so here's hoping all you heat seekers get your wish! WONDERFUL TRIBUTE--I just want to say that the...
