  • To Fluoride or not

    Feb 26, 2026

To The Eagle, Wahkiakum PUD will be seeking public input regarding whether to continue or discontinue the addition of fluoride to the Cathlamet Water System. It is my opinion that our water should absolutely continue to be fluoridated. Fluoridation is an equitable public health measure providing cavity prevention benefits to everyone in this community, regardless of age, income, or access to dental care. Consistent, low-level exposure through water provides a continuous protective effect. It’s a cost-effective public health intervention v...

  • Shop Local

    Feb 19, 2026

To The Eagle, I’ve been thinking about the conversations around town that say groceries are cheaper if we drive to Longview. At first glance, that may seem true. But when we factor in gas, vehicle wear, and two hours of travel time, the savings aren’t always what they appear to be. And once we’re in a larger city with endless shopping options, many of us spend more than we planned. Our local Cathlamet Market may not match every big-city price, but it offers something just as important: accessibility, reliability, and community stability. When...

  • When will we stand together?

    Feb 5, 2026

To The Eagle, I remember walking down the street in my small town and seeing a large group of people gathered in front of our courthouse, holding signs that read “No King.” These signs were a clear expression of their dissatisfaction with how President Trump was running the country, reflecting concerns about leadership and a desire for more democratic governance. While the crowd seemed to be socializing more than actively protesting, their presence and the messages on their signs spoke volumes about the political climate at the time. As I obs...
