The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on May 15 in the Middle School Commons. In personnel matters, the board acknowledged the retirement of Mitzi Hunter, effective at the end of the school year. Ms. Hunter spent 24 years in the District, mostly serving students at the Naselle Youth Camp. The Naselle Comets track and field team had some good results in the May 3 Pacific League meet. They competed in the district meet yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) at Naselle High School. The 12-4 Naselle Comet baseball team will journey to Winlock on Saturday to take on the 15-6 Colton Wildcats in a 1 p.m. loser out state quarterfinals game. The winner will advance to the semifinals to take on the winner of the matchup between 11-5 Quilcene and 13-4 Evergreen Christian. The public is invited to join friends of the Tuner-ville Campground on May 19, 10 a.m., for a potluck and a day in the woods. This is a state Department of Natural Resources primitive camp just outside of Naselle. One finds it by turning off SR 4 on to Salmon Creek Road and just keep going. Wahkiakum County's transit service has slowly grown and expanded since it was formed in 2004, system operators said Tuesday. Wahkiakum on the Move has grown from service three days a week with one bus and two drivers to six days a week with runs between Naselle and Kelso with four buses, three vans and 11 drivers. Ruby Forsberg Satterlund Cargo, age 97, was born in Yankton, Oregon, January, 30 1921 and died April, 17, 2018 at the Community Home Health and Hospice in Longview. Ruby was one of four children born to Swedish immigrants that settled in Yankton. At the age of three, Ruby's father died in a logging accident. The family later moved to Grays River, where Ruby attended school and graduated from Naselle High in 1938. Ruby completed training at the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Seattle in 1942 and...
William James Karwoski (Bill) of Rosburg, was born on July 13, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois and died March 12, 2018 at OHSU in Portland. He was raised and received his education in Illinois and Missouri where he earned his PhD in Mining and Nuclear Engineering. His career path took him first to Boeing in the Seattle area, followed by the Bureau of Mines in Spokane, Grand Junction, Colorado and the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington. WEEKEND--This past weekened we started out a little damp on Saturday morning after a pretty cloudy, yet dry Friday, but it quickly became real sunny and nice. In Skamokawa, at the Creative Wood Design Opening on Saturday at Redmen Hall, five Southwest Washington men shared their work with visitors.
