NICE--Last weekend wasn't too bad, as Saturday started out with some cloudiness but by noon, the breeze blew those clouds away and the sun came out, which made for a decent day. Anytime temps are in the 70s, I'm a happy camper, as once they reach the 80s, I'm ready to hide in the house! Father's Day was the same way, and even with the clouds moving in later, we got to see the "Strawberry Moon" just over the dark cloud bank in the evening so that was pretty neat. I hear some dampness is forecast for sometime this week, so while most will not be...
Dogs and Goats Throughout the Westend all the way to Naselle, I have had the opportunity to talk with many who have a variety of animals from cattle for meat and/or dairy and goat farmers. All these people I talked to have dogs. These dogs are used as work dogs, guard dogs, and pets. They protect the property, animals, and the owners. I have met some who have a goat or goats as pets and they have dogs as well. I acquired a brown and white chested pit bull as a rescue dog a little over a year...

WARMED UP--We've had some wild weather recently, with last Friday being really wet, wild and windy at times, which meant falling trees on SR 4 and people's yard things getting blown all over. The pounding rain certainly did not do my flowers any good; poor things look pretty squashed now! However, this week the weather has turned on its summer switch and it's much hotter and drier, and is supposed to be so for over a week. By 1850 rhododendron seeds were being sent to England by William Lobb. There are only two natural...

NICE--This past weekend some of the mornings were a bit cloudy and gloomy but the sun came out so all the goings on over the weekend were enjoyed in the afternoon and evening sunshine. I hear there may be a chance of a few sprinkles in the forecast but that's going to depend on where you live, so here's to good weather if you're having some sort of outdoor activity planned this weekend. USE CAUTION--Please remember that it is extremely dry around here, so even...
Hidden in plain sight The demographics of both Wahkiakum and Pacific Counties have indicated a rise in people moving into the area who are not familiar with the history or customs of the area. The names of roads and towns are peculiar and unfamiliar. Then they enter a quaint little town in Pacific County called Naselle. What kind of name is that? Is it Finnish because of the amount of Finns who were the early pioneers of the area? All kinds of conjecture and speculation come to their mind. I...
