I woke up today to sun. May I simply say I feel joy again? And gratitude to the Lord of all. Photo of the Week: My friends, I have goofed with names again and can only apologize to those who feel unseen because of my memory lapses. A couple columns ago, I mistakenly called Jane Scharbach "June." I am so sorry, Jane. I had a call from one of Jane Scharbach's friends in Oregon who said she had watched for an apology from me last week for giving Jane Scharbach the wrong name. She thought surely...

DECENT BEGINNING--I’m beginning this column on Sunday, and it’s starting out fairly decent. Then again, as we saw on Saturday, the sunny day can quickly become a wet one, complete with hail so we’re still dealing with this crazy Spring weather. Not everybody got this sudden burst of nasty weather but it certainly caught those who were in it off guard, as the sunshine had folks sporting light shirts in the 69 degree day, but when that wind brought in those heavy laden clouds that just dumped on us, well the temperature took a quick nose-dive and...

June is just around the corner which means graduation, Memorial Day traffic, vacations, classic cars at the fairgrounds, July 4 holiday, fireworks, and the Finnish American Folk Festival on the last weekend in July. Summer goes by too quickly. Then kids are off to college and we're exhausted trying to keep up with life. Oh wait, it's dry by end of summer so I just water plants at that point. And then it's fall. But as a cancer survivor, I will not fret or complain. I will be grateful for every...

STILL CHILLY/DAMP--The first half of May has certainly been on the damper side of things, which has been fairly disappointing. We had such heavy rain squalls on Sunday, that it took out all reception from the satellite, and of course, really hammered my poor flowers. They say we are supposed to be drying up a bit, so maybe we’ll get a couple of nice days this Friday and Saturday; certainly would be nice! SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from May 19-25 are Kris Parke, Tayler Stornetta, Mitch Moonen, Julie McKinley, Bryson Havens, Elle B...

Photo of the Week: Jack and June Scharback of Sisson Creek on Oneida Road. Life is taking on momentum now that we're heading toward June. Everything in my yard is "Coming up Roses" from "Gypsy" the musical, except my roses. I think the tips have frozen one too many times. But to say I had a great day today gives few hints of today's happy adventure driving out to "the end of the road" called Oneida. I sat for two hours with Jack and June Scharbach whose house is reached by walking across a...
