GETTING WARMER--We ended last week with a few showers and some cloudiness, but that was ok, as those extra high temperatures don't thrill me much anyway. COOLER--This week began with some clouds but no rain, and Monday wound up much nicer than they said it was going to be as we even managed to get the lawn mowed before noon when the heavier cloud cover came in! OFF & ON HOLIDAY--Our Fourth of July holiday started out pretty nice for the first couple of days, but we woke up to rain here in West Valley on both Sunday and Monday. If you happen to be one of these people who are experiencing low water levels in your creek or well, I'm guessing you were pretty happy to see some rain fall, but that little bit probably won't do you much good, but it does take down the fire danger a bit, and with massive fires in some areas, the rain is a good thing. WARM BEGINNING--As this week begins, it's a toasty Sunday; upper 80s in West Valley and I've heard other areas are a little hotter than that, but that's plenty for me. I'm sure those that got soaked last Thursday and Friday are glad to see the sun arrive once again, as it's tough to start a big garage and yard sale when it's super soggy out there. SUPER NICE--We couldn't have asked for a nicer Father's Day with the sun shining and temperatures in the mid-70's, along with a little breeze, so that was great for all those who held barbecues or traveled here or there to treat Dad out on his special day! BIG DIFFERENCE--Last Saturday was certainly a big change from the previous one, as instead of trying to keep out of the blazing sun and shading ourselves with our umbrellas, like we had to do at the car show, we were raising those umbrellas to keep from getting soaked from some very heavy downpours! PLENTY WARM!--All those heat lovers must have been totally pumped about the heat wave we had last weekend, and even the days prior to and after that, as it was plenty hot, that's for sure! Anytime temps are in the upper 90s at the beginning of June for several days in Skamokawa, with no wind and temperatures still around 70 in the latter part of the evening, well, that's really rare; and uncomfortable! MIXED BAG--This week started out a bit damp here in West Valley and some other places, but later on in the day it got real nice. By now, you should have been enjoying a lot more sun, but we also know what that means: stupid people doing stupid things. Heads up people, do not leave your children or your animals in your vehicle! It's amazing that anyone would allow a child to be alone in a rig anyway, but on hot days, it's deadly and totally unforgivable. Animals are best left at home on these warm days. OFF AND ON--Last weekend wasn't a complete bust, as it seemed Portland got hammered with rain, while we stayed cloudy with only a few spinkles on Saturday. Sunday was pretty wet here in between sun breaks, so I'm glad the lawn got mowed while it was dry, and we could just let nature water the plants. I was expecting some rain for Monday and while some folks had some sprinkles, I was out doing yardwork and getting mighty toasty in the sun, at least during the first part of the day. There are people who say that there's "nothing to do " in Skamokawa (Skuh-MOCK-away) and while at first glance at this tiny town, you may believe that's true. However, as they say, "looks can be deceiving" and that is true about this small town as well. While there are no massive shopping malls or casinos here, the community calendar that is put out by the Wahkiakum County Chamber of Commerce, shows a full schedule of events for the county, and many of them take place right here in Skamokawa, the little town located along Ocean Beach Highway...
WET BEGINNING--As this week began, it was a bit on the damp and cool side, which was a far cry from the weather we ended with last week, as it was dry and up in the upper 80s. PRETTY NICE--Last weekend was Mother's Day weekend and while Sunday wasn't as warm and toasty as Saturday, it was still pretty nice later on in the day as the winds blew the cloudiness away and we saw the sun again in the afternoon. I have to admit, the air was much nippier by late afternoon, but hey, it wasn't pouring down rain, so that was a blessing. BIG CHANGE--Last weekend we saw clouds, rain, wind, hail and a dash of sun, so there was a little bit of everything! Oh well, you know what they say about April showers! GREAT START--As this week began last Sunday, it was super nice, as were the couple of days prior to that. GORGEOUS--Wow, have we had some great weather or what? I know we had some rain come down later in the day on Sunday and some on Monday, but prior to that and even after that, it was great! HALF NICE--Easter weekend may not have been completely nice, but most of Saturday was, so the Lions Club Easter Egg hunt didn't happen in the pouring down rain. Actually, it didn't start getting wet until evening time here, so it was a pretty good day, and with so many events taking place, it was great to not have to wear boots and slosh around through the puddles. SPRING HAS BEGUN--There were a couple of very nice days last week with plenty of sunshine to make us "drowned rats" feel a lot better and of course, give those avid lawn lovers a chance to head into their yards as it was perfect weather for mowing the lawn. WILD BEGINNING--Last Sunday was forecast as a wet and windy one and by golly, early that morning, we started getting some pretty good gusts out here. I had hoped that our first day of losing an hour of sleep due to Daylight Savings Time would be relatively calm but no such luck, as my flying garbage can gave me an early wake up call! MIXED BAG--I no sooner turned in my news last week and the weather took a turn for the worse and got pretty wet and pretty windy and some areas wound up losing power, while others had trees coming down, but it really depended on where you were as to how bad it was. Some of the days that were forecast for being miserable, were actually half-way decent, meaning part of the day was dry and sunny, while the rains poured down later on, but that beat a whole day of nastiness, so that was fine with us. NEW MONTH--Here we are in the third month of the year already; amazing! We had some mixed weather to end February as a couple of days last week were just gorgeous, with plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures, while the last couple of days of the month were a bit wet and windy. HALF NICE--Last weekend was one of those where you got one nice day to get all your outdoor chores done, and then when Sunday rolled around, it was time to be inside, as it really rained, at least here in West Valley. WET START--As our big Valentine's Day arrived, so did the rain and boy, it didn't take long and all the fields around were "lakes" once again! Of course, between Saturday night at midnight and Sunday evening, we had two inches of rain out here, so it was no wonder we were seeing lakes materialize and grow before our eyes. Not only was it wet, but the fog-like clouds settled in real low and ship horns were blowing and visibilty was bad all over in the morning hours, so it wasn't nice. DRIED UP--After a thunder storm last Friday night that brought pounding rain to our area, along with some breezy conditions, it was nice to have things start to dry up a bit, as I think we were all getting webbed feet from all the rain we've had.
