The Wahkiakum Mule golf team recaptured the District Title Trophy last Thursday, beating runner-up Willapa Valley by 52 strokes with a four man 36 hole total of 679 to 731. Clam diggers will get one more chance to dig razor clams this season during a three-day opening at Twin Harbors, running Friday through Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The morning dig scheduled May 24-26 got the green light from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) after marine toxin tests showed the clams at Twin Harbors are safe to eat. The John C. Thomas Middle School eighth grade girls track team went undefeated in league meets and won the district championship this year. "They are a special group of girls," said Coach Paul Johns. The Wahkiakum Mules golf team extended their inter-league record to 15-0 in a four-team golf match at the Highlands golf course in Cosmopolis on April 11. The winds were howling on a sunny day with gusts up to 30 miles an hour, and any stray shot found itself in the woods or down canyons on the tight front side of the Highlands course. The Wahkiakum Mules brothers Lars and Gunnar Blix combined to stifle the visiting Adna Pirates last Thursday in a pair of Central 2B League games, winning the opener 6-2 before taking the nightcap 4-0.
