    Kay Chamberlain|Aug 8, 2019

TOASTY--For those who love the heat, we certainly have had plenty as temperatures were right up in the 80s for the weekend, so many of the outdoor events, like the Wooden Boat Festival and Ugly Car Show in Cathlamet, didn't have to worry about wearing boots or rain jackets! Instead, one needed something for the shade and something to keep hydrated, so here's hoping you found some of both there this weekend. Cloudy conditions greeted us on Monday morning, but it was dry, so I didn't mind at all as it's perfect weather for doing some of those...

  • Wooden Boat Show has more than boats

    Diana Zimmerman|Aug 8, 2019

The Wooden Boat Show had something for everybody this year. "The show was great," Allen Bennett, one of the organizers, said. "We had many more boat exhibitors this year than in the recent past. We filled both B and C docks with beautiful boats. We had good weather, although a bit warm, good public participation, and received many nice words about our show from both the public and exhibitors." I know little about boats, but I got to meet some fascinating people, including a woman who is working...

  • Suggestions offered on controversy

    Aug 1, 2019

To The Eagle: I have several observations about the current pronoun controversy. First, a number of years ago, my father used to make a joke about the subject, suggesting that I “go out to the person box to see whether the person-person left us any person.” And that comment brings to mind a quandary: If the word “man” is to be avoided, then what about “woMAN”? Shouldn’t that be “woPERSON?” Oh, but “son” denotes gender, so maybe we need to change it to “woPER-DAUGHTER?” And finally, here’s a more serious suggestion: Inasmuch as the capital let...

  • Silver Buckle and boat festival this weekend

    Kay Chamberlain|Aug 1, 2019

LOOKING GOOD--This past weekend was nice, although Saturday morning it began quite wet around here, which was nice for our lawns and plants but not so great for those who had hay down! Luckily, the sun came out and things dried out pretty good and Sunday was all sunshine from the get-go, so that was helpful. It seems we are going to end July with some pretty decent weather and August could start out nice too, but then again, forecasts can change overnight so who knows? We just hope that come fair time, we have some nice, sunny weather, that's...

Sublimation is printing a photo onto different materials such as metal, hardwood, ceramic, slate and anything that has a polymer coating. She s...
