Three Wahkiakum High School and two Naselle High School baseball players will play in the 43rd Annual Senior All Star Game at Centralia’s Wheeler Field on June 6 at 3:30 p.m. Ashden Niemeyer of Cathlamet, as well as Jimmy Strange and Warren Wirkkala of Naselle will represent the Nationals team in the nine inning game, while Beau Carlson and Chance Cothren of Cathlamet will play for the Americans. Ivan Goldinov was friendly, but perhaps a little shy about talking to a reporter. He was happy to share that Mr. Hurley and Mr. Rooklidge were his favorite teachers, but much of that had to do with what he was able to do in their classrooms, which was working with his hands. It's lifelong: you don't grow out of it. You just learn to live with it. One day Spring was coming and the next it was here. Plants are popping up and growing at a fast clip. Some of mine are already surrounded by grass I have to get after or the plants will never be seen. The rain gets the grass growing quickly so if grass isn't cut regularly, then it's a big challenge to get it under control. On the other hand, it IS spring! Stevenson Bulldogs 7, Mules 6 On April 19, the Mules took the lead in the first inning and maintained it until the bulldogs pulled ahead in the sixth inning, clinching Stevenson a spot in the district tournament and eliminating the Mules in the process. On Monday, Wahkiakum Health and Human Services reported that six more people had tested positive for covid-19 in Wahkiakum County, bringing the cumulative total to 114. Of those cases, 10 are considered active. As of Tuesday, there had been 5,242 cases in Cowlitz County with 68 deaths attributed to covid-19. Diane Lucy Gray left this earthly life suddenly on April 19, 2021 in Longview, Washington. She was born on January 27, 1955 in Island Falls, Maine to John and Wilma Lynch. Following the family's move to California when Diane was only 2 years old, she and her siblings grew up in the Bay area. On Monday, Wahkiakum Health and Human Services (WHHS) Director Chris Bischoff reported six new cases of covid-19 among Wahkiakum County residents. Bischoff said the patients were associated with the Naselle/Grays River Valley School District, and all were in quarantine. On April 15, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced that a one-lane bypass has opened on SR 401 where a slide closed the highway near the Megler-Astoria bridge. The WSDOT’s contractor, Big River Excavating, finished construction of a temporary single-lane bypass road, restoring travel along SR 401.
